2024 Public Classes

Nature to You gets you gardening in cooperation with Town of Marana Parks and Recreation and Pima County Public Library.  

All Ages gardeners 3

All-Ages Gardening

January 20, February 17, March 16, April 20, 2024.  $40/adult (16 and up) for all four sessions ($50 non-Marana resident).  Children welcome and included for FREE.  Marana Community Garden. 

During four hands-on workshops, you will plant, play in, and harvest from plots 39 and 40 in the Marana Community Garden.
 
January - Get active while exploring what likes to grow in cool weather.
February - We will clean up the winter garden, play with worms, and prepare for spring.
March - Discover changes, help the plants along, and sing songs about the season.
April - We will snack, share stories, and add seeds for summer.

Five Sweet Seasons

March 22, 2024. FREE! 2:30-4:30 Eckstrom-Columbus Library

Eat a sweet sunshine model! Play with plants! In this 2-hour, hands-on workshop, you can explore the Sonoran Desert’s 5 seasons. Learn about patterns of sun and rain. Imagine ways to play year-round. Plant seeds that are in season.

This session is geared towards adults, with children also welcome.  Space is limited. Register HERE

Make & Take Sweet Garden

Friday, March 29, 2024. 6:00-8:00 p.m. $40/person ($50 non-Marana resident).  Ages 16 and up.  Marana Heritage River Park Brad DeSpain Stables. 

Treat your senses to sweet-smelling flowers that love spring, and tasty herbs that can handle the heat. You’ll learn about plants that grow well in Southern Arizona while enjoying beautiful sunset views from the barn at Marana Heritage River Park. Then prepare the soil, select a pot, and choose and arrange plants into a beautiful living arrangement to take home. No prior experience required, and all planting materials provided.  Register HERE.

Seed Sponges Storytime

May 10, 2024. 3:00-4:00, FREE! Miller-Golf Links Library

Play with seeds big and small, squish sponges and real soil, read an inspiring seed story, then start a little garden in a sponge! Dress for the weather -- this storytime may possibly take place outside. Ages 3 and up.

Imagine a Garden Storytime

June 4, 2024. 10:30-11:30, FREE! Quincie Douglas Library

Read a magical garden story.  Learn about plants for food, flowers, and fun.  Then plant something in season to take home or to grow the library's garden!   Dress for the weather – this gardening storytime will take place outside.

Wet and Wild in the Garden

July 8-12, 2024. 8:00-9:00 a.m.  $50/family for all five sessions ($62.50 non-Marana resident).  Marana Community Garden. 

If your family gets up with the sun, summer mornings start EARLY. Bring your restless kids out to the Marana Community Garden to care for plants, find wild critters, and play imaginative games. Every session uses water play to help keep us cool. Activities include squirting plants and people, investigating mud and worms, seeking habitat for birds and kids, and planting and snacking on garden goodies. Take home new ideas for exploring your own backyard too!
